Humans and horses

The man stepped forward when a large herd of horses stopped in front of him and his suite. Ebony black stallion trotted further than others and nodded his head as in greetings. Perhaps he was really greeting.

Once his eyes met the deep dark eyes of the creature in front of him, the man felt strange connection between their minds. And thanks to this connection, he suddenly knew the whole story...



A gray mare was desperately trying to get away from a big spotted feline following her. She was galloping, but her follower somehow managed to keep up. Slowly she started to lose strength and hope...

The way ended abruptly. She stood between rocks and couldn’t return the way she came. The feline was getting closer, confident skilled hunter.

She gave up last hope. Silently she said sorry to her unborn foal for failing him...

And then suddenly there was a small creature before her. A human. She didn’t even know how, but he managed to chase the feline away. She immediately felt undying gratitude towards him. And she decided that from now on she will protect him with her life. Gratefully, she offered her back to him. And he accepted.



They lived together for a long time. He always treated her with honor and she returned it with love. She was helping him fight his enemies.

But then he was once deadly hurt in battle and she couldn’t save him. She punished the ones who did it to him, but it was all she could do. She rested by his body until his breath stopped. Since then she felt broken. She believed she failed him.

And so she taught her son to trust humans.

But he was disappointed by them. He expected them to be the way mother described, but they were different... They didn’t value anything and they were mindlessly hurting others... So he left them to live free again like other horses.



Sadness appeared in the black stallions’ eyes. But then it gave way to seriousness.

The man understood. This was the mare’s son. Son of the mare who created alliance between humans and horses that fell apart with time.

Now it was time to renew it.

The humans asked a question... And horses standing in front of them, silently answered: Yes.

The alliance between humans and horses will continue.

“Long live the horses, the most faithful friends of humans!”
